Expert Travel Tips: Plan as far ahead as possible. These properties are very different then hotels when it comes to the business of rates. Supply and demand have a huge effect on rates. If you wait too long, you may very easily pay much more for less. Most families book their summer rentals a year in advance or more. If you need to make last minute reservations, make sure a full kitchen is a part of the amenities. A kitchenette is usually a microwave, coffee maker, and maybe a mini fridge. A kitchen should have a stove and oven. This is important when considering this type of accommodation. A lot of money can be saved by cooking a few meals at "home". Another amenity that's often over looked is a washer and dryer. If you don't mind finding a laundromat, then this might not top your list, but they're nice to have. Find out when season, off season, and special events are. The most popular vacation months are July and August, so rentals will be more expensive. You can save a lot of money by avoiding the high season. You could save at least 30% to 50% if you book your rental for late May or early in June. After Labor day, you can save 50%. When reserving beach front rentals, you may want to go in late September when the weather and water is still on the warm, but the rates are lower than July and August. |
