The first thing you notice about Doc’s seafood Shack and Oyster Bar in Orange Beach, Alabama, is that it is unpretentious. It is in an old building; it’s ah, well, a shack. Although a bit off the beaten track for tourists, the locals have been frequenting Docs forever and will attest that is a the place to go for an exquisite seafood experience.
The menu is quite simple with their specialty being fried seafood. Patrons return, time and time again, to gorge themselves on the fried shrimp and diners prepare their own cocktail sauces from a wide assortment of condiments provided. Visitors rave about the royal reds, a very good gumbo and the oysters on the half shell are fresh, cold and small. There is a good kid’s menu, an exceptional ‘Po boy’, chicken and meatloaf for those without a taste for seafood and TVs for sports lovers.
Reviews for Doc’s are extremely favorable. Those few negative reviews being from people who did not expect a seafood restaurant to have the aroma of a seafood restaurant. It’s not fancy, but those who dine regularly at Doc’s, attest that it is some of the best food in the Gulf Shores region.
