Expert Travel Tips: Use the tools provided on this site to make an informed decision. There are pros and cons at times in relation to timing. Most cruises sell out many months prior to departure. You may hear that waiting for great last minute deals is the best way to go. Your budget might agree, however what you end up with may not be the best for you. If you are looking for the cheapest cruise available, then we have the lists of prices easily laid out for you. Again there are many different variables to consider first. Unless you live near a port, chances are you'll have to fly into your departure port of call. We have all the information you'll need for making those reservations as well. The first step is to decide when you can go and for how long. Put you information in the form above and you'll be given a list of cruises available. We suggest searching all cruise lines and all lengths. This will layout all your options and prevent going back to compare. This list will show the destinations for the cruises along with prices (before taxes and additional charges). Next, choose the cruise that interests you the most. Now you will be able to see what affects pricing more than anything else. Cabin selection. Our system will show you real-time availability for your cruise. You may notice that where on the cruise ship an available room is, greatly affects rates. Upper cabins cost more than lower ones. An obstructed view, or interior cabin will be the least expensive. Usually the cabins toward the front of the cruise ship are sold first because of propeller noise. This can be disturbing to some and a lullaby to others. When a cruise gets closer to the time of departure, the last minute deals some may have encouraged you to wait for, will be on the interior or lower cabins. For some this is great. They want the cheapest possible cruise available. They won't spend much time in their room anyway. Some cruise vacation veterans want one of the many cabins on the large, newer ships that offer private balconies. The amenities on the ship may aid in your decision. When you have made your reservations, start planning your trip. You'll need to bring identification that matches your reservations exactly. A bride leaving for her dream Honeymoon cruise needs to consider whether or not to change her identification to her new married name, prior to the departure. This is a good decision to make at the time of the reservations. A valid passport is always a good idea -- and in some areas, you'll need to be aware of visa requirements. If you get very sick or injured during the cruise, the boat will not turn around for you. Be prepared to fly home in an emergency situation. You will be receiving information in the mail with your confirmation. Go over it and be aware of what will be happening. Some cruise lines are very casual, while others are quite dressy -- particularly on formal nights. You will want to bring some dressy outfits for formal nights. Shipboard expenses can add up. Consider this when budgeting for your cruise. They can increase the price you pay for a cruise substantially. Extra charges for classes, tips, drinks, and shopping can add up to a steep bill under your door at the end of your trip. Tipping is a subject that many cruisers find both confusing and frustrating. Tipping is a matter of individual preference, and should be for exceptional service. A general rule of thumb is to plan for about $2.50 to $3.00 per person per day for your room steward and dining room waiter, and about half that amount for your busboy. (A few cruise lines include tipping in the price and will inform you if so.) Other ship personnel can be tipped for special services at your discretion. Most cruise lines will provide envelopes for tipping on the last day. Consider it as part of your budget and you won't be caught off guard. Finally, have fun. If you have all of these particulars straight, you won't have to be thinking of them while you're out snorkeling and exploring your ports of destination. Of coarse you need to consider the cost of those off board excursions as well. We hope you have a fantastic cruising vacation. It is truly one of the most enjoyable ways to travel. |
