Expert Travel Tips: Plan as far ahead as possible. The more popular the destination, the further in advance you need to look for reservations. If your goal is to plan your trip during the "off season" or cheap time of year, look for shoulder seasons. September is most commonly known as the "secret season" for these destinations and is a great example of a shoulder season. Many schools are back in, the beaches are less crowded, cheap hotel deals are more numerous, stores have more sales, and the weather is still warm. This can be the cheapest time to go and really have a great time. Going during the middle of off season will likely be too cold to really enjoy it. These places have been discovered, and many families make reservations for the same time every year. Go prepared. If you're flying and need to travel light, then bring the essentials like: suntan lotion, a hat, a book or mp3 player, and a blanket. Use up that lotion. Especially for the first couple of days. If you're driving, and can pack a few extra items, bring comfort items like: beach chairs, an umbrella, and a cooler. When packing light many convenience stores and grocery stores have styrofoam coolers. These are great for the time you're there. Bring a disposable camera instead of your expensive one. Get an underwater or water resistant camera if they're available. Give it to the kids and let them take some pictures. They'll have fun, and it won't ruin the day if they drop it in the water. Before you put down your blanket in that perfect spot, use your feet to make a mound of sand. Then lay your blanket on top of the mound with it on the edge. Now you have a pillow that you can form to your comfort. When you arrive to the beach look for lifeguard stands. Choose a location near a lifeguard stand if they're available. Ask the lifeguards about hazards like jellyfish, rip-currents, etc. They can also tell you were good snorkeling spots are. If you do get caught in a rip-current (a current that goes away from land), swim at a 45 degree angle. Don't try to swim straight into shore, you will get tired and into a dangerous situation. You will likely swim out of the current before you reach shore by swimming at an angle. The most important tip is being safe. Keep an eye on your family in the water, and encourage younger and older family members to take plenty of breaks from swimming. We hope this is the best family beach vacation site, and you find everything you need to plan your trip.
